3 Things Buyers and Sellers Need from their Real Estate Agents

24 Feb, 2024

Being a real estate professional means you understand the importance of making your clients happy. But sometimes even the best agents can overlook what their clients really need. Here are three things all real estate clients need for a successful transaction:

Focused Communication

It’s no secret we live in a world where our attention is being pulled in multiple directions ALL. THE. TIME. However, when it comes to real estate/client relationships, it’s extremely important to drown out the white noise and give focused communication. What does this mean?

  • Prompt responses to any questions or comments your clients have—whether text, email or phone call.
  • When you talk to your client put the distractions aside. If it’s in-person put your phone down and talk to them directly. If you’re on the phone don’t try and multi-task while answering their questions. Devote your attention solely to them and see how it changes your working relationship.
  • Don’t beat around the bush. If you need something from your client, be direct and ask them specifically for what it is. Cut out some of the fluff and get to the point. It’ll save you both time and energy.

The Right Advice and Guidance

Your real estate clients need your expertise to feel confident in their decisions. Believe it or not, there are real estate agents out there that give their clients the run around because they either don’t know the answer, or don’t feel like dealing with it. Buyers and sellers need your expertise to feel secure in moving forward with their transactions. In order to provide the right advice and guidance to your clients, you need to make sure you:

  • Stay up to date on the latest real estate trends and insights.
  • Be in constant communication with your partners (lenders, title companies, appraisers, surveyors, etc.) so you can understand any changes in the industry impacting them—which means you’re ahead of things with your clients.
  • Have resources available to share with your clients on the common questions you are asked.

Encouragement

If you take a step back and think about it, you are the guide to one of the biggest decisions a person can make in their life. This is why it’s so important you encourage your clients through the home buying process. When things get overwhelming—which they will—be ready to help your client make sense of things. Here are some ways to encourage your clients:

  • Share a similar experience another client faced, and how it turned out ok.
  • Be a good listener. It can be easy to want to jump into “fix-it” mode, but sometimes your client needs you to listen to their concerns and then take the time to formulate a response that keeps them on track.
  • Share a quote of the week, a funny meme, or a video that your client can relate to. This can not only elicit a laugh, but also make them feel like you care.

How you work with your clients directly impacts your level of success. By taking the time to give your clients focused communication, expert advice, and meaningful encouragement you are setting yourself up for an easier transaction and a happy result!
